Showing the HDD (My Computer) icon on the desktop in Mac OS X

When you first open the MAC OS X operating system, the desktop will be empty. To add the HDD (My Computer) icon to the desktop, you need to follow these steps in order:

1. Click an empty space on the desktop.
2. To the right of the Apple menu, click Finder.
3. In the menu that opens, click Preferences.
4. Make your selections under the section “Show these items on the desktop” (or “General” tab), and close the window by clicking the red button.
